Russian Mail-Order Brides? 

Russian women who place advertisements with marriage agencies do not know, usually, that they are referred to by the title “Russian Mail-Order Bride”.  They’re not so excited to find it out.  It’s an insult.  Russian women are very proud. You should never use that term related to your lady. The process of ordering a woman through the mail never really existed anyway.  Mail was used to send catalogs.  This process is replaced today with the internet dating sites.  Lots of women and men all over the world now use this method to date and find their spouse. 

Russian women are advertising for husbands more directly, and this makes the arrangement a bit different than typical western internet dating.  It’s dating, but on steroids.  It has to be, because of the distance involved.

This is the typical, step by step process of international dating leading to marriage:

  • You find and correspond with a lady via the web.  You may use a website that helps you in your search and facilitates your communication, if necessary.
  • You travel to Russia or to a former USSR country to meet her.
  • The two of you decide if you are meant for each other.
  • If you don’t have chemistry with your girl, abort early if things aren’t going well.  You can visit an agency during your trip and meet other women.
  • You may visit her once or several times, depending on how long it takes you and her to make up your minds about each other.
  • You ask her to marry you, and she accepts or declines.
  • You begin the fiancée visa paperwork
  • Wait anywhere from 3 to 9 months, or rarely, even longer while the immigration service does its thing.
  • She gets her visa interview in her country or a nearby country, at the embassy of your country.
  • If she passes the interview, she gets the visa for your country.  She can fly to your country and pass through customs as your fiancée. 
  • Within a short while (in the USA, it’s 90 days) the two of you either marry, or she has to return home.

So, yes, this process is much different than usual if you are dating a lady of your own country.  It’s more accurately described as “International Dating”.  Your chances to get to
